I Came To Lagos To Steal — Illegal Immigrant Says

A Lagos Magistrates' Court sitting in Ejigbo has ordered an immediate deportation of a 19-year old illegal immigrant from Cotonou in Benin Republic, residing in Lagos, western Nigeria.

The man made a shocking confession that he actually came to steal in Nigeria in order to survive.

The convict, Abdulrahaman Jafaru, told the court that he came to Lagos with his friend who is now at large over two years ago and had been stealing before he was caught.

The man was caught after he broke into a church in Akesan area of Lagos and carted away the worship equipment.

He also revealed that he lived in an uncompleted building where he kept those items recovered from him.

Jafaru, the police alleged, broke into Glorious Assembly Church located at Adexon Bus Stop Akesan and stole the church musical equipment, generators belonging to Pastor Biodun Paul and hid them in an uncompleted building.

After presenting his case, the prosecutor, Mr. Femi Adeleye asked the court to sentence him accordingly because if he was left unpunished, he will go back and continue stealing.

The court found him guilty as charged and ordered his deportation.
